At Kids In The Middle, we believe that confident, well-supported teachers make all the difference in how children experience school — especially during times of family change. Our School Staff Development Service helps educators understand the emotional world of children who are moving between two homes, coping with separation, or managing family stress. Led by Leah, a long-time teacher, art therapist, and NLP practitioner, this program combines real classroom experience with emotional and practical insight. Leah knows first-hand what it’s like to support students who arrive at school carrying more than just their backpack — and she provides tools, language, and strategies that fit easily into daily teaching routines. This service helps schools strengthen their wellbeing culture, create consistency across classrooms, and build staff confidence when working with children and families facing complex challenges.
Our workshops and sessions help teachers and support staff recognise what’s really going on beneath a child’s behaviour. We explore how separation, anxiety, and family transitions can affect attention, friendships, and classroom engagement. Staff learn how to identify signs of stress early, respond with empathy, and manage tricky conversations calmly. These sessions are practical, down-to-earth, and based on real examples — not theory. Teachers leave with tools they can use the very next day, and a renewed sense of confidence in supporting children through change.
Children thrive when they feel seen, safe, and understood. Our training helps staff build emotionally safe classrooms that allow children to regulate, settle, and learn. We guide teachers through small, powerful shifts — using tone, language, and routine — that make a big difference in how children feel at school. We also share practical ideas for creating calm corners, sensory spaces, and daily rituals that help children transition smoothly between home and school. These strategies are easy to implement and align with the school’s wellbeing goals, helping reduce disruption and improve focus for the whole class.
Kids In The Middle’s approach isn’t just about individual classrooms — it’s about creating a school-wide culture of empathy, communication, and understanding. We work with leadership teams and wellbeing coordinators to align language, expectations, and support systems so that every staff member feels equipped and consistent in their approach. This includes developing clear pathways for communication with parents, guidance on handling sensitive family information, and optional follow-up coaching for staff who want extra support. The result is a stronger, calmer school environment where children feel cared for, and teachers feel supported rather than stretched.
