At Kids In The Middle, we know that schools often sit right at the heart of a child’s world — especially when families are separating or going through change. Our School Liaison Service helps schools, teachers, and support staff understand what’s really happening for a child, and how to keep them feeling safe, settled, and supported through it all. Led by Leah, a long-time teacher, child consultant, and integrative therapist, the service brings a mix of classroom understanding, creative strategies, and trauma-informed practice. Leah’s years of experience in education, NLP, and art therapy allow her to see the whole picture — the child, the family, and the school environment — and bridge the gaps between them. Kids In The Middle works alongside principals, wellbeing teams, and classroom teachers to create calm and consistent approaches that fit within the school’s culture and routines. The goal is always the same — to keep children emotionally steady, help staff feel confident in handling family complexities, and make school a place of belonging and stability for every child.
Kids In The Middle can act as a gentle bridge between parents and schools during times of family change. Our role is to help everyone communicate clearly, reduce confusion, and make sure the child’s needs come first. This can include meetings, practical strategies, and support with smooth handovers between parents at school.
Teachers often see the signs of distress before anyone else. We provide simple tools, training, and guidance that help staff respond in calm, supportive ways. This includes understanding separation anxiety, managing emotional moments, and building daily routines that help children feel secure and ready to learn.
Everything we do keeps the focus on the child — their voice, their comfort, and their wellbeing. Our School Liaison Service helps schools take a child-centred approach in day-to-day practice, ensuring that no child feels left out or “in the middle” of family changes. We also help schools develop clear processes and calm transition spaces that make a world of difference for children and families alike.
